The full strength of the Italian security forces in the 1960s is still not exactly known. According to estimates, more than 20,000 army soldiers, about 8,000 customs soldiers, and approx. 10,000 Carabinieri were deployed in the region of South Tyrol and Belluno. That would mean that one out of eight Carabiniere was on duty in South Tyrol.
