According to official Italian reports, in the night of September 12 / morning of September 13, 1965, an Alpini support station at the Reschen Pass was attacked by BAS activists. Despite numerous shots and several exploded hand grenades, no one was injured. Investigations carried out by the Austrian security agencies yielded a completely different story about the night-time shots, which had nothing to do with the BAS.
Nevertheless, two days passed after the incident before an Italian diplomatic note was sent to the Austrian Foreign Ministry claiming that “Austria is at least partly guilty on account of her tolerating terrorism.”
