Midl von Sölder from Bruneck/Eppan
*1910 †2007
During the Fascist era, Maria (a.k.a. “Midl”) von Sölder devoted herself to the cause of South Tyrol as a “catacomb teacher.” After the wave of arrests in 1961, she joined forces with other friends – including the then-secretary of the South Tyrolean Peoples’ Party, Maria Egger – to organize the so-called “Bus of Tears” which was used to transport family members of the arrestees to and from their fathers, husbands, and brothers in the Italian prisons. Additionally, aid was given to the families of arrested BAS activists who had fallen on hard times.
