Kurt Welser from Innsbruck
Kurt Welser was the leading activist of the Austrian BAS group in northern Tyrol. He was responsible in particular for the supply and also training of the South Tyrolean activists. In 1963, Kurt Welser was arrested in connection with several explosive attacks carried out in Ebensee in the state of Upper Austria. However, the three attacks with one fatality and two severely injured Austrian constables – five schoolchildren and two adults miraculously avoided one attack – were committed by Italian Neo-Fascists.
Kurt Welser died in 1965 in a mountain-climbing accident in Switzerland.
